Is it possible to transform waste, which presents a chronic problem for Brazilian cities, into an opportunity? To combat climate change, promote social inclusion and boost the transition to a circular economy? The ANDUS project found a way: providing technical assistance tocities, thereby generating learningswhich feed back into national policies.
This Policy Brief features data on the Brazilian context; highlights the lessons learned from the ANDUS Mentorship program for cities, implemented from 2023 to 2024; and contains recommendations on how to strengthen the capacities of municipalities to adress issues of the waste sector. With a focus on the social inclusion of waste pickers and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
